RESTORING HOPE IN THE HEARTS OF THE CONVICTED.
WHY WE STARTED.
The prison system is not kind to the mind of those who fall into it. After her husband Emmanuel Chukwulozie was imprisoned for 11 months, Angela Chukwulozie witnessed the conditions of the prison dampen the spirits of men made to feel condemned. Considering the dignity of the man imprisoned, it did not seem right that human beings should be subjected to such conditions.Upon dying shortly after his release, Emmanuel Chukwulozie’s experience moved Mrs Chukwulozie further. She decided to set up the Okechukwu Emmanuel Memorial (O.E.C.M) Foundation to help former prisoners who need a compassionate re-entry to the world beyond bars.
Our mission is to turn pain into purpose.
Over 70% of inmates in Nigerian prisons are wrongfully convicted. Most of them cannot afford the process of release or rehabilitation. We can make the difference
WHAT WE DO.
The process of releasing a formerly incarcerated person is often complicated. Bureaucracy and red tape make it difficult for the prisoners and their families who are often below the poverty line. As a result, there are over 70% of wrongfully convicted Nigerians who struggle to move their case into conclusion.
The O.E.C.M Foundation is set to help with two stages of prison reform: 1) The release of prisoners and 2) The rehabilitation of the formerly incarcerated.
New Entrepreneurship Opportunities
Our vision is a life-long network of young men grooming each other into the best version of themselves. O.E.C.M works to provide the care and attention that they need to achieve that level of self sovereignty within and beyond their stay with us.
Teaching Self-Leadership Through Faith
We are a Faith-focused initiative, using the Catholic canon as a belief system that the formerly incarcerated can heal through. While in prison, there are a reasonable amount of young men that speak of needing a new belief system. At O.E.C.M, we aim to provide gatherings, religious services, and seminars geared toward a celebration of life.
